Brown Bag Lecture
Friday.April 7. 2006
12pm-1pm
room #118. School of Architecture and Planning (main facility)

This spring break, a design tour to Japan was organized for the
architecture students of the 300 Level Design Studio. As part of
this tour, students took part in a three-day design workshop with students from the Tokyo private design school, ICS College of Arts. [see video]

This brown bag lecture discussed the architecture typologies of
transportation, information and public recreation as seen in the urban fabric of Japan.  By comparing these three typologies
within Japan they gave insight into this dense urban environment.

They also discussed the collaboration that took place between
ICS and UNM students during the design workshop, in particular, the communication barrier they were confronted with and how this was broken down through the medium of design.

As the students discussed how the trip had influenced their design work, the audience watched projections on floating white veils while sitting on cardboard simulated tatami mats.
