Tour 07

Spring Recess. Friday. March 09 - Monday. March 19.
Tour organized and conducted by Christopher Kaltenbach

As ARCH 301 has focused on the body and its relation to movement and space, the projects for ARCH 302 will continue in this trajectory, however on a larger scale. We will be examining the body in relation to terrestrial space and time, through notions of zero gravity, tele-presence and simulation (ambience/artifice).

In Tokyo the implementation of simulation (ambience/artifice) more often reflects issues of enhancing quality of life, convenience, decorum. Due to Japan’s cultural history and to landmass and population size, there is already a preoccupation with the simulation of those things that can bring a consistent ease to peoples lives. For these facts and others, this design tour is an important experience in allowing students to witness a city and a populous engaged with a wide spectrum of simulation and ubiquitous technologies.
